Getting started on OGX

Welcome to OGX – Old Galaxy Xperience, a browser-based space strategy game inspired by classic OGame mechanics, with several modern improvements (build queues, a non–pay-to-win VIP system, quality-of-life tools, etc.).

This page explains the basics to get started: account creation, first buildings, key research and the first actions you should take.

1. Creating your account and choosing a universe

To play OGX, you first need to create a master account on the portal:

  1. Go to the main website: https://playogx.com
  2. Create your master account with a valid email address.
  3. Once logged into the portal, choose a server (universe) among the available ones.
  4. A game account will automatically be created on the selected universe and linked to your master account.

You can have several game accounts on different servers, all linked to the same master account.

2. First login in game

On your first login in a universe:

  • You start on a small home planet.
  • You have an initial stock of resources (Metal, Crystal, Deuterium).
  • You have no real fleet or defenses at the beginning: the goal is to slowly build up your economy.

Main game views:

  • Overview: planet summary, build queue, events.
  • Resources: manage and upgrade your mines, power plant and storages.
  • Facilities / Shipyard: construct advanced buildings and ships.
  • Technologies: scientific research to unlock new possibilities.
  • Fleet: send missions (transport, attack, expedition, colonization…).
  • Colonization: manage your future colonies.
  • Expeditions: special missions to position 16.

At the start, your main objective is to stabilise your economy.

Suggested build order on your first planet:

  1. Upgrade the Metal Mine (level 1 to 4).
  2. Upgrade the Crystal Mine (level 1 to 3).
  3. Build or upgrade the Solar Plant to cover your energy needs.
  4. Upgrade the Metal Storage and Crystal Storage if your stocks hit the limit.
  5. Keep alternating: some Metal, some Crystal, then Energy again.

Avoid starting very expensive buildings too early (like the Nanite Factory, for example): they are useful later, once your economy is already strong.

4. Build queues and VIP Commander

By default, each planet has:

  • a build queue for buildings;
  • a research queue for technologies (when you have a Research Lab).

With the Commander Account – Service terms of use (VIP), you unlock:

  • advanced building / research queues (several items waiting in line);
  • production bonuses;
  • reduced building and research times;
  • an extra expedition slot and other comfort features.

The Commander is activated using OGX Credits – Terms of purchase, use and refund from the portal.

5. Basic research to prioritise

Once your first mines are running, start researching:

  • Energy Technology: improves the efficiency of some technologies and is often a prerequisite.
  • Computer Technology: may increase some slots depending on the server settings.
  • Espionage Technology: lets you get better intel on other players and detect their fleets.
  • Astrophysics Technology: essential to unlock new colonies and expedition slots.
  • Combustion / Impulse Drive : increases the speed of your early ships.

You can find more details on the Technologies page.

6. First ships and defenses

As soon as possible, build in the Shipyard:

  • A few Small Cargos to move resources between your future planets.
  • A few light combat ships (depending on your playstyle) to give you minimal protection.
  • Some Rocket Launchers and basic defenses so you are not an easy target.

Tips:

  • Do not sink all your resources into defense at the very beginning: economy stays the priority.
  • Keep upgrading your mines and energy while you produce your first ships.

More information will be available on the Ships page.

7. Expeditions and colonization: preparing the mid-game

As soon as your Astrophysics Technology level is high enough:

  • You can send Expeditions to position 16 to try to obtain resources, ships or Dark Matter.
  • You progressively unlock the ability to colonise new planets (additional colony slots).

Your medium-term goals:

  • Have several specialised planets: for example one main production planet, one focused on fleet, one focused on research, etc.
  • Carefully choose the position of your new planets (planet size, temperature for Deuterium production, etc.). See Colonization for details.

8. General tips for a good start

Some good habits:

OGX is a long-term game: progress step by step, build a strong economy first, then grow your fleets and defenses accordingly.
