Expéditions
Expeditions
Expeditions are a core feature in OGX. They allow you to explore deep space and obtain resources, ships, or special events.
Expedition basics
An expedition is a special mission sent to an unexplored sector of space (usually position 16 in a system). These missions can bring various rewards, but they can also result in losses.
To start an expedition, you need:
- Ships (transport ships are generally recommended)
- A free expedition slot
- A sufficient level of Astrophysics
Astrophysics and expeditions
The Astrophysics Technology determines the maximum number of expeditions you can run at the same time.
Summary:
| Astrophysics level | Maximum expeditions |
|---|---|
| 1–2 | 1 |
| 3–6 | 2 |
| 7+ | 3 |
The Commander account (VIP) gives you one additional expedition slot.
From level 7 and above, you can send up to 3 expeditions in parallel (4 with Commander).
Expedition targets
Expeditions must target position 16 of a solar system, for example: [1:123:16].
- There can never be a planet on this position.
- It is reserved exclusively for exploration missions.
Possible expedition outcomes
Once the mission is over, an expedition can result in:
Possible rewards
- Resources (Metal, Crystal, Deuterium)
- Ships found and added to your fleet
- Dark Matter (rare)
- Flavor / narrative messages (mysterious logs, story events)
Risks and dangers
- No discovery (nothing found)
- Loss of ships (attacks, black hole, accidents)
- Harmless encounters (nothing special happens)
Recommended duration
The optimal duration depends on distance but also on the random expedition algorithm.
In general, a duration of about 1 to 2 hours is recommended for good results.
Tips for expeditions
- Never send your whole fleet.
- Prefer cheaper ships such as small or large cargoes.
- Avoid loading a lot of resources on expedition fleets.
- Use multiple expeditions in parallel instead of one huge risky one.
